Help & FAQ

Everything you need to know about using One Inheritance to protect your legacy.

Getting Started

What is One Inheritance?

One Inheritance is a secure digital space that helps you organize and protect your important information — assets, liabilities, duties, memories, and documents. Everything is protected with advanced end-to-end encryption. Only you can see your data, and after you, only your loved ones.

Creating your account

  1. Download the One Inheritance app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Enter your email address and create a strong password.
  3. Verify your phone number.
  4. Set up your space password — choose something strong, memorable, and hard to guess.
  5. Complete face registration for added security.

Your space password

Only you control your password. For your safety, One Inheritance can't recover it on new devices. Write it down and store it somewhere safe, separate from your device.

Managing Loved Ones

What is a loved one?

A loved one is someone you designate to receive access to your digital space — your assets, documents, and memories — if something happens to you. Think of it as naming someone in a digital will.

How to add a loved one

  1. Go to the Loved ones tab in the app.
  2. Tap Add Loved one.
  3. Enter their basic information: name, relationship, email, and phone number.
  4. Add a government-issued ID (such as a passport or driver's license) by taking a photo.
  5. Take a face photo of the loved one for identity verification.
  6. Review and confirm the details.

Why do we need a government ID and face photo?

When the time comes for your loved one to receive your space, we need to verify their identity to prevent unauthorized access. The government ID and face photo allow us to confirm that the person claiming access is truly who you intended. All photos are fully encrypted — our servers never see the originals.

Assigning loved ones to your items

After adding a loved one, you can assign them to specific assets, liabilities, duties, or memories. Open any item in your space and use the Assign Loved one option to choose who should receive it.

Legacy Release (After You)

How does One Inheritance hand over my space?

You don't need to appoint witnesses or committees, and there's nothing to set up beyond your own check-ins. One Inheritance simply watches your check-ins. If you stop checking in, One Inheritance reminds you for a while, and only if you never respond does it reach out to the loved ones you chose — and even then, your space is released only after an official death certificate is verified by our team.

How does the legacy-release process work?

  1. You set how often One Inheritance should check in with you, and you choose which loved ones inherit which items.
  2. If you miss your check-ins, One Inheritance sends daily reminders — by notification and email, with a text message in the final days.
  3. A single check-in or sign-in at any point cancels the whole process instantly.
  4. If the reminder window passes with no response, One Inheritance notifies your loved ones and gives each of them a private claim code.
  5. A loved one downloads One Inheritance, enters their code, and uploads an official death certificate, which a member of our team reviews by hand.
  6. Once it's approved, each loved one confirms their identity with face verification and receives exactly what you assigned them.

Can anyone see my data during this process?

No. No one — not your loved ones, not One Inheritance's team — can see any of your space data until access is formally released. Your space stays protected by your password and zero-knowledge encryption throughout.

What if I'm just on a long break?

You're always in control. Any time you check in or sign in, the process stops immediately. Once your loved ones have already been notified, cancelling simply requires a quick face check-in to confirm it's really you.

Activity Monitoring

What is the activity check?

The activity check is a safety mechanism that monitors whether you are still actively using the app. If you become inactive for a period you define (for example, 90 days), One Inheritance begins reaching out to you with reminders before anything else happens.

How the activity check works

  1. If you have not logged in or checked in within your chosen time period, a wellness check begins.
  2. One Inheritance sends you daily reminders across a waiting window — by notification and email, with a text message in the final days.
  3. At any point, logging in or checking in cancels the process during this window.
  4. If the window passes without your response, your loved ones are notified — and your space is released only after a death certificate is verified.

How to complete an activity check

Simply log in to the One Inheritance app regularly. Every time you open the app and authenticate, your activity timer resets. You can also manually check in from the app if you want to reset your timer without browsing your space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my data safe?

Yes. All your data is protected with advanced end-to-end encryption. Our servers only ever store encrypted data and never see your plaintext content. Your encryption key is kept safely escrowed — encrypted with bank-grade key management — and is only unlocked through a strict, audited process after a verified death certificate, so your loved ones can inherit.

What happens if I lose my phone?

You can log in on a new device using your email and password. Your encrypted data is stored on our servers and will sync to your new device once you authenticate. If you have biometric login set up, you will need to reconfigure it on the new device.

Can One Inheritance staff see my data?

No. Your data is encrypted with advanced end-to-end encryption before it reaches our servers. We do not have the ability to decrypt it. Only you can see your data, and after you, only your loved ones.

What if a loved one loses their phone?

Nothing is at risk. A loved one only receives access after the legacy-release process completes, and they verify their identity with face matching on whichever device they use. A lost phone cannot unlock anything on its own.

How do I change my activity check settings?

Go to Profile > Settings in the app. You can adjust how frequently you need to check in and how long the inactivity period is before a wellness check begins.

Can I remove or change a loved one?

Yes. You have full control over your loved ones. You can add, edit, or remove them — and change what you've assigned to each of them — at any time from the Loved Ones section in the app.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Profile > Account in the app and follow the account deletion process. All your encrypted data will be permanently removed from our servers. This action cannot be undone.

Is One Inheritance free to use?

One Inheritance offers a free tier with core features. Premium and Enterprise plans are available with higher limits and additional capabilities. You can view plans in the app under Profile > Subscription.

How do I pass documents to my family after I die?

With One Inheritance, you add documents and memories to your digital space and assign them to specific loved ones. If you stop checking in, One Inheritance notifies your loved ones, and access is released after a verified death certificate and identity verification. Your documents and assets reach the right hands — not before.

What is the best app for storing important documents safely?

One Inheritance is a zero-knowledge digital space designed for important documents, assets, and memories. Your data is encrypted before it leaves your device — we cannot read it. You can also plan your legacy: assign loved ones so your documents reach the right people when the time comes.

Where can I safely store my assets and documents?

A digital space like One Inheritance keeps your assets and documents in encrypted, zero-knowledge storage. Only you hold the key. You organise items into spaces, add loved ones, and a verified death certificate ensures a secure handover. Learn more at niviapps.com/digital-vault.

How does legacy planning work with One Inheritance?

You create spaces, add assets and memories, and assign loved ones (with verified identity). If you stop checking in, One Inheritance reminds you, then notifies your loved ones — they cannot access your data before then. Your legacy is released to them only after a death certificate is verified by our team. Learn about legacy planning.
